FAQ
Your questions, answered.
Do my clients need to download an app or create an account?
Clients can use Tethr in their browser without downloading an app. They do need a Tethr account to book and manage sessions themselves. You can also manage clients who haven't signed up and book on their behalf.
How does Tethr process payments?
Tethr uses Stripe to securely process online payments. You don't need to learn how to use Stripe to take payments through Tethr—we handle the complicated setup behind the scenes. Tethr guides you through creating a Stripe account or connecting an existing one, providing the business details Stripe needs and choosing the bank account for your payouts. Your clients pay through Tethr, and Stripe sends your payouts to your bank.
Does Tethr charge any fees for payments?
Tethr adds no platform processing fee. Stripe's standard US rate for online domestic-card payments is 2.9% + 30¢ per successful transaction.
Can I try Tethr before paying or setting up Stripe?
Yes. Your 14-day trial needs no credit card or connected Stripe account. You can add clients, book sessions, create packages and try the client's booking experience. When you're ready to collect online payments, you can create a Stripe account or connect an existing one through Tethr.
Can I start with a few existing clients?
Yes. You can start with just a few existing clients. Invite them when you’re ready for them to book and pay on their own. For clients you haven’t invited or who haven’t signed up yet, you can manage bookings and record payments on their behalf. They won’t receive Tethr reminders, confirmations or updates until they connect an account, so you’ll need to keep them informed.
What happens to packages clients have already paid for?
You can record the sessions they have left without charging them again. Add a package for that client, enter the remaining session count and any expiration date, and mark it already paid. For example, someone with six sessions left can start in Tethr with a six-session balance.
Can I still accept cash, Venmo or bank transfers?
Yes. You can accept payments outside Tethr and mark sessions or packages as paid yourself. You can offer this option to everyone or selected clients, alongside online payments. Tethr doesn't collect those outside payments or automatically verify that they've arrived.
Can I work at different gyms, courts or clients' homes?
Yes. Set separate availability for each business location and shared hours for visits to clients' own locations. You can also set a travel-time buffer between locations, which client booking takes into account. The buffer is a duration you choose, rather than a live traffic estimate.
What happens if a client cancels or needs to reschedule?
Clients can cancel or reschedule within your booking rules. Inside your late-cancellation window, rescheduling is blocked and cancelling doesn't automatically return their session credit. Eligible earlier cancellations return credit for another session, rather than automatically refunding their card. If you cancel, their credit is returned.
Can Tethr track packages and charge for renewals?
Yes. Package balances update as bookings are confirmed, and connected clients can see their remaining sessions. With auto-renew enabled, a package renews when sessions run out or it expires. Packages paid through Tethr charge the saved payment method; outside-payment packages renew as awaiting payment for you to collect, which we inform you about.
Can clients book group sessions?
Yes. You can post group sessions, set a capacity and let eligible clients book available spaces. You can also add or remove clients yourself. Group sessions use your session types and payment options, so you can offer them alongside one-to-one coaching.
Will Tethr remind me and my clients about our sessions?
Yes, both you and your clients receive reminders and updates about upcoming sessions. Notifications are sent via email and app notifications if you have the app installed.
